About Us
Jamila (ja•MI•la): the feminine version of the Arabic word “jamāl”, meaning beauty.
My name is Monika and I am the owner and founder of Jamila Designs. I am a proud mother of three boys (ages 4, 2 and 7 months), a wife, a sister, a niece and a passionate business owner.
Working as a beauty therapist for 10 years, I’ve always found joy in creating beauty and making my clients feel happy and confident in themselves. This drove me to start my own small business, creating the made-to-order designs you see today. I started from humble beginnings working with vinyl. After a year of growing my business (and my confidence) I knew I had more to offer, so I expanded into the brand that you see today!
This dream didn’t happen overnight. After 4 years of leave from my job, raising three kids, living my day-to-day, I felt like I had more in store for myself. I gave myself a chance, took a leap of faith, bought myself a Cricut machine and set it up in the spare room. I told my partner it would just be a small on-the-side hustle - little did he know it was just the beginning and I would soon have a machine the size of my shed!
As my family grew, so too did my business and my passion for creating. My partner is incredibly supportive of my dream and encourages me to go as big as I need to. Working around three kids at home can be a challenge, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I get to do what I love every day, around the people that are my world. This was my entire vision and I’m proud to say I am achieving it.
Each and every one of my clients gets a personalized experience when they work with Jamila Designs. I appreciate every single customer and do a happy dance every time someone places an order. I am filled with gratitude for the people around me who have supported my dream, and am proud of myself for what I have created.
